The Object in Metamorphosis / A Perpetual Movement
This work is defined by circular movement. The long canoe appears to soften at its center and rotate upon itself. This transformation symbolizes both evolution, echoing recurring motifs of metamorphosis and futurism associated with science fiction, and the motion of a wheel, a modern symbol of speed and progress.
The form narrates a story, projecting the canoe into the future through circular motion. Its materiality—industrial-painted aluminum—transforms the canoe, propelling it into contemporary times, closer to a car than a bark canoe. The diagonal positioning of the canoe references Henri Julien’s composition study for La Chasse-galerie, evoking the tale without directly illustrating it. The industrial golden finish symbolizes significant changes driven by progress while honoring the sacred aspects of memory and origins.
